Katie Beckett Waiver
To be eligible for the Deeming Waiver (previously known as the Katie Beckett Waiver), the child/dependent must be 18 years old or younger, meet federal criteria for disability (under Section 1614 of the Social Security Act), is financially ineligible for SSI benefits, and requires a level of care provided in a hospital, skilled-nursing facility or intermediate-care facility but can be cared for at home.
Waives Income Requirement
The Deeming Waiver ignores the household income/resources and focuses on the needs of the child/dependent so that they can remain home with family.
Persons eligible are appropriately cared for at home but have an estimated cost of care that will not exceed the estimated cost of treating him/her within an institution.
Financially Ineligible for SSI
To qualify for the Deeming Waiver, the child/dependent must be ineligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) due to family income.
